What is Goal Mapping?

You must define the specific actions you will take. This involves answering: Who? What? When? Why? and How?. If you cannot articulate the specific activity, you cannot do it.

M - Measurable

Vague Goal: "I want more followers."

SMART Goal: "I will gain 10 followers."

How will you measure success? How much or how many?. You need to know exactly when the goal is accomplished. In the travel business, this could be "5 new qualified leads," "3 bookings," or "$5,000 in commission." If you don't measure it, you can't manage it.

A - Achievable

Vague Goal: "I will become the world's top travel influencer by next week."

SMART Goal: "I need to create 3 posts and 3 captions; I need to set aside time to schedule the post."

Is your goal grounded in reality? This part of the framework forces you to look at the logical steps required to succeed. For example, if your goal is to post travel content, do you have the photos? Our framework prompts you to think through the logistics, such as: "I need my spouse to send me their pictures". By identifying the small hurdles (like needing photos) upfront, you ensure the goal is actually achievable.

R - Relevant

Vague Goal: "I want to learn how to code a website from scratch."

SMART Goal: "I want to increase leads through social media."

Relevance asks: Why do you want to accomplish this?. Does this goal align with your big picture? As a travel advisor, your time is money. Learning to code might be fun, but is it relevant to selling travel? Likely not. However, increasing leads is relevant. Always tie the small task back to the big "Why."

T - Time-bound

Vague Goal: "I'll do this eventually."

SMART Goal: "I plan to post 3x per week for 6 weeks."

When should this be completed?. A goal without a deadline invites procrastination. By setting a specific duration (e.g., 6 weeks), you create a container for your effort. This allows you to sprint, review the results, and adjust.

When you combine these elements, you get a powerful, actionable roadmap. Instead of a vague desire to work harder, you end up with a script for success:

"I want to gain leads through social media and will post 3x per week for 6 weeks. I first will get vacation pictures from my spouse, create 3 posts, then schedule them on Monday at 10am. I will gain 5+ followers per week and 5 leads after 6 weeks."
