Ka'anapali and Kapalua were once the sporting grounds of Hawaiian royalty.
Ka'anapali is known for its championship golf courses and beautiful white-sand beaches - perfect for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing. Near the middle of Ka'anapali Beachwalk, seek refuge from the sun at Whalers Village. The beachfront shopping center has you covered with various designer boutiques, local artisans, restaurants with live music and cafes with locally grown coffee.
At the northwest tip of the island, the resort community of Kapalua is quieter and cooler than its neighbors to the south. The elegant and serene retreat is a prime destination for luxurious spas and superb dining. If you're visiting in June, don't miss the delicious dishes and drinks at the Kapalua Wine and Food Festival. And any time of the year, snorkel at Kapalua Beach and be on the lookout for Hawaii's state fish, the humuhumunukunukunpua'a (triggerfish).
1. MAUI TROPICAL PLANTATION
Take a narrated tram tour of this 60-acre working plantation. Learn about the origins and harvest techniques of Hawaii's commercial fruit crops, including sugar cane, star fruits, bananas, coffee, macadamia nuts, papaya and more.
2. SURFING GOAT DAIRY
Visit this state-of-the-art, working goat dairy farm with over 25 cheeses (including 11 National Award winners!), truffles and soaps.
3. MAUI TEA FARM
Located en route to Haleakala National Park, enjoy an hour-long guided walking tour of Hawaii's first and only tea farm. Learn all about the cultivation of tea, followed by a tea tasting.
4. KULA COUNTRY FARMS
Pick strawberries (February through June) amidst breathtaking hi-coastal views at Kula Country Farms. In October, enjoy different colors and varieties of cooking pumpkins, mini-pumpkins, and squashes at their annual pumpkin patch.
5.ALI'l KULA LAVENDER
This aromatic farm spans over eight acres with more than 25,000 lavender plants in over 40 varieties. Take a self-guided or organized garden tour and find a unique lavender gift to bring home.
