The Journey at a Glance
Spanning June 23 through July 5, 2025, this bespoke immersion was co-hosted by Tourism New Zealand, Tourism Fiji, premier destination management company Southern Crossings, and award-winning carrier Fiji Airways.
The itinerary was intentionally structured to showcase the remarkable contrast between the lush tropical archipelagos of Fiji (exploring Savusavu, Yaro, and Natadola Bay) and the diverse alpine and coastal topography of New Zealand (traversing Auckland, Queenstown, Kaikoura, Nelson, and Northland).
Sanctuaries of Hospitality: Signature Preferred Lodges
Throughout the voyage, advisors inspected and resided at world-class luxury properties that balanced extraordinary architectural design with heartfelt regional hospitality.
Azur Lodge, Queenstown: Private villas overlooking Lake Wakatipu with heated floors and floor-to-ceiling fireplaces.
Rosewood Kauri Cliffs, Northland: Coastal elegance perched above the Pacific with private chef dining experiences.
“The views from Azur Lodge were breathtaking. Heated floors, fireplaces, and even a hair straightener—every detail was thought of.”
– Maureen Woodward, Travel Advisor
“Rosewood Kauri Cliffs might be my favorite. The tropical setting, the spacious guest suites, and the private chef dinner in the gardens were all completely unforgettable.”
– Theresa Field, Luxury Travel Advisor

Savusavu, Fiji • World-renowned eco-luxury, private marine biologist snorkeling, and authentic bures.
InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort
Natadola Bay, Fiji • Rolling hills, white sand beach, private club suites, and championship golf.

Unforgettable Encounters: Glaciers, Whales & Culinary Masters
The expedition was meticulously curated not just around luxury stays, but around immersive field encounters that connect travelers viscerally to the land:
Alpine Glacier Aviation: Touching down on untouched glacial ice fields high above Queenstown and The Remarkables.
Nelson Culinary Immersion: Private garden harvest cooking class with a celebrated MasterChef finalist.
“The Alpine Helicopter flights were one of the top experiences of my life. We landed directly on a pristine glacier and then at an alpine lake—it was completely surreal.”
– Julia Hamilton, Luxury Travel Advisor
“Lunch with Chef Fiona in her private garden in Nelson was my favorite meal of the entire trip. It was fresh, personal, and unforgettable.”
– Theresa Field, Travel Advisor
Soulful Connections: Village Blessings & Indigenous Traditions
True luxury travel lies in genuine human connection. In Fiji and New Zealand, advisors experienced authentic cultural ceremonies that revealed the enduring spirit of community.
Fiji Village Kava Ceremony: Presenting sevusevu kava roots and receiving an ancestral village blessing.
Southern Crossings DMC: Private guide Will providing seamless logistics and expert cultural storytelling.
“The cultural presentation in the village was authentic and moving. Offering kava roots and receiving a traditional blessing was a powerful, emotional moment.”
– Melissa Fail, Travel Advisor
“Southern Crossings was outstanding from start to finish. Our guide Will was exceptionally professional, warm, and made every single day seamless.”
– Theresa Field, Travel Advisor
Seasonality & Insider Planning Insights
Timing an itinerary combining New Zealand and Fiji offers unique tactical advantages when planned thoughtfully:
- June in New Zealand: Marks the beginning of winter. Travelers enjoy crisp alpine air, snow-capped peaks, prime scenic photography, world-class Pinot Noir tastings, and uncrowded lodges.
- June in Fiji: Represents the dry season, featuring warm sunny skies, low humidity, and crystalline ocean waters ideal for diving, coral snorkeling, and private island day sails.
- Shoulder Season Value: Early to mid-June offers attractive shoulder rates on transpacific flights and luxury lodge stays before peak mid-winter school holidays commence.
Advisor Tips for Future Travelers
- Packing Cubes: An absolute essential for staying effortlessly organized when moving between island bures and multi-stop alpine lodges.
- Layered Wardrobe: Preparing for both warm tropical breezes in Fiji and crisp alpine mornings in Queenstown requires smart, versatile layering.
- Insect Repellent: Always carry quality repellent when hiking near South Island rivers where native sandflies congregate.
- Ferg Bakery: Make time to visit Ferg Bakery in Queenstown for the most mouthwatering artisanal meat pies in New Zealand!
