Our top suggestions for saving big money, when planning a Universal vacation.
Universal is the most popular vacation product for families. Universal raises prices every year, and everyone talks about it.
We don't want you to stress about planning your Universal trip.
The number one way and best way to save money on a Universal vacation - work with a travel agent and book early. Our travel agency does not charge you any fees. Universal pays us for our service, not you!
When you book early, this means your rates are locked in. The closer it gets to travel time, Universal raises prices. Both ticket prices and room rates are raised.
Universal packages can be booked well in advance. As soon as you hear from your travel agent that new Universal packages are just released, this is the best time to get them. Working with a travel agent means, your travel agent can add you to a waiting list, so as soon as the packages come available - it is first come, first serve. Your travel agent can contact you when the packages come out, and let you know they're ready.
Sometimes, people make a mistake waiting for Universal promotions and last minute discounts. Even these items don't happen at Universal very often.
Promotions can be applied if you haven't already booked. Sometimes, you can apply a promotion to a reservation, and it doesn't save much money at all, even though it does look like a big promotion telling you you're going to save money - but it won't save you as much as booking early.
Another money saving tip, you can save a lot by booking in the off season. There is still an off season with Universal parks and experiences, but there are no dead seasons anymore!
The best time to go for the lowest crowds and cheapest rates can be the last 2 weeks of August into December. There are good weeks in January and February, but might run into conferences and Presidents Day gets tricky
You can get more value out of your trip if you go during lower crowds and cheaper room rates. This time can be cheaper Genie Plus rates and ticket rates as well.
When kids are in school, this can be some of the cheapest times to go. Sometimes it makes sense to take your kids out of school to get cheaper rates!
The very last week of summer vacation, depending on your school's schedule, just when schools go back, September can be an amazing time.
The value for your dollar goes so much further - you can get more rides, attractions, you will be less stressed when you're not waiting in lines and pushing through crowds.
Go back in September and look at Universal News - Busiest booking Universal years right now.
This can save you money and stress in your planning. Go during low season when the kids are in school, or leave the kids in school and take an adult Universal trip.
Another money saving tip that can save you 1000s if you're a big family.
The Universal bubble means you're staying at a Universal property close or next to a Universal park. -
There are things to consider when staying on property.
The amount you pay might not be worth it, but need to think of size of your group / family.
The benefits we used to get are a lot less now - like Magical Express and booking Fast Passes early.
There used to be tons of perks to stay on property, but for a large party (maybe 6 or more), do the perks make sense for the added cost?
Even smaller than this, it might make sense to stay off property.
The on property resort fees, extra time to get to resort
Value resorts
Lots of full kitchen / villas that are close to WDW, won't take much time to get to theme parks
Not all travel agents will help you with these.
Other benefit - if you plan on saving money by taking food in, full kitchens/kitchettes in your room can be very helpful.
Art of Animation family suites for family of 6, but if staying for long, maybe a cheaper villa makes sense.
If you plan on bringing food into theme parks, this can save a lot.
It's best to have a full kitchen/fridge for this-stroller or scooter, so you can push food around
Can save 100s by bringing in lunch
Dining is important, but you can budget for this and do dining each day
Eat a quick breakfast outside the park - granola bars, snacks, etc.
Need grocies, but you don't have a rental car? Use a grocery delivery service or uber to a close grocery store. These options are getting easier.
Universal raises prices every year, and everyone talks about it. Universal is the most popular vacation product for families.
Don't stress about planning your Universal trip
Universal gift cards - budgeting hack - you can get certain % of with certain branded gift cards and points. In the park, when you're in vacation mode - Pre purchase Universal cards - merchandise and food Universal gift card plan. Can get multiple, one for each kidUniversal dining plan, is it coming back?Estimate what you're going to spend on dining - you can look at menus and estimate what you're going to spend.Extra goodies - you need to plan for.Magic bands make it easy to spend money, especially when you're in vacation mode. Afternoon - Set anchor at a virgin island. Divers can explore the open waters on a channel dive; nondivers can water-ski or tube in the lagoon. Later, enjoy a relaxing massage on the beach.
