After breakfast, there is plenty of free time to explore Alice Springs at your leisure before rejoining The Ghan Expedition, which starts with a mouth-watering meal under the chandelier of stars at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station before reboarding the train.

A morning stop at Manguri offers a visit to the weird and wonderful Coober Pedy, where half of the residents live underground. Enjoy a day of discovery and lunch in the most unique of locations: underground, before reboarding the train for dinner.

As the train continues south, you will see a dramatic change in landscape as the rich ochre tones of the outback make way for the green fields of South Australia to Adelaide, where you will disembark as the journey becomes to an end.

Your three-night stay in Adelaide includes a full-day tour to Kangaroo Island and a private Barossa Valley experience.

Depart Adelaide early on a coach journey to Cape Jervis taking in the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula with its vineyards, coastal views and rolling hills. On arrival, board the SeaLink Kangaroo Island ferry for the 45-minute crossing to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Meet your local guide for an introduction to Kangaroo Island. Tour through several island habitats and see wildlife in their natural environments.
