French Guiana's capital city warrants no more than three hours of sightseeing. Do visit the cemetery in the center of town, with its unique tombstones and worm trees (they're called that because they appear to be covered with worms). Round out your tour with visits to the 17th-century fort (there's very little left of it but there are some nice views from the ruins) and the French Departmental Museum. Take note of Place de Palmistes (the city's main square) and the Prefecture. See the La Crique area and the old Jesuit residence (L'Hotel-de-Ville). That's about it. Although it does have some remnants of colonial charm, Cayenne is, literally, a rather dirty town.
