The island of St. Lucia spans 238 square miles in the heart of the West Indies. Located just a stone’s throw from the nearby islands of Barbados and Martinique, it’s an exotic escape with a rich and varied history. St. Lucia is famed for its fantastic scenery and unspoiled nature trails, which makes it the ideal destination for those who love to explore on foot.
St. Lucia’s hiking trails are amongst the best in the world with their unrivaled views and beautiful flora and fauna. If you’re intrigued, why not check out some of these amazing hiking spots when you visit St. Lucia?
When we think St. Lucia hiking, there’s one nature trial that immediately comes to mind: the Tet Paul Nature Trail in Soufriere. This is a short hike, which is perfect for novices. But if you're an experienced hiker, don't let that dissuade you.
Hikers can travel around this small loop in approximately 45 minutes, but this isn’t a hike you’ll want to rush. Take your time and you’ll be handsomely rewarded with some of the most beautiful views on the island. This nature trail even has lookout points along the route, where you’ll be able to enjoy fabulous scenery.
Gros Piton is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Need we say more? This nature trail is as breathtaking as you might expect, offering a whole host of natural views for visitors to enjoy. This trail is more challenging than the Tet Paul Nature Trail, but it’s still easily accessible for beginners. Experienced hikers will also find enough challenges on this nature trail to make it an exciting adventure.
The Gros Piton Nature Trail begins with a relatively easy hike, from Font Gen Libre. At the halfway point things start to get a little trickier, so make sure you reserve some energy if you are planning to give this trail a go. Those who reach the summit are rewarded with spectacular views of nearby islands St. Vincent and Martinique.
Immerse yourself in the spirit of St. Lucia as you explore this breathtaking rainforest trail, which leads to the impressive waterfall of Enbas Saut. There are plenty of St. Lucia hiking tours that take visitors along this trail, so don’t be put off if you’re a beginner - there are many friendly guides ready and waiting to help!
This trail is quite off the beaten path, so if you’re planning a day out far from the all-inclusive resorts and hustle and bustle of St. Lucia’s towns, the Enbas Saut Trail is a great choice.
If you want to get first-hand experience with St Lucia’s flora and fauna, and enjoy a day exploring the rainforest, you can’t go wrong with any trail. But one of our favorites is the Forest Reserves Hikes in Castries, where you can join an organized tour, or set off on your own for an unforgettable adventure. We recommend you get started early in the morning to get the most from this hike. Take your time and you’ll be treated to amazing sights of local wildlife as you make your way through the rainforest.
Petit Piton is Gros Piton’s slightly smaller sibling, located just a stone’s throw from the towering summit. If you’re exploring the famous Gros Piton Nature Trail, it’s well worth taking the time to check out Petit Piton too.
Petit Piton isn’t quite as high as Gros Piton, so you won’t get the same captivating views from the top, but there’s still so much to see along this trail. It’s also slightly less popular than the trail of Gros Piton, which gives explorers a more tranquil experience.
If you’re up for a challenge, grab your hiking boots and make your way to the Edmund Rainforest Trail in St. Lucia. This is one of the most exciting spots for hiking on St. Lucia, but it’s not for the faint of heart. The three and a half hour hike takes travelers right through the heart of St. Lucia’s dense rainforest, which is home to stunning greenery, from wild mushrooms to exotic orchids. You’ll even catch a glimpse of St Lucia’s highest mountain, Mount Gimie, from this rainforest trail.
If you’re off on an exotic adventure to the beautiful island of St. Lucia, make sure you pack your hiking boots. St Lucia is an amazing destination, just waiting to be explored. Whether you’re an experienced hiker, or you’ve never been on a hike in your life, you’ll be able to find a trail to suit you.
