The strawberry daiquiri is one of those drink recipes that is synonymous with the Caribbean. This delicious and refreshing cocktail is served throughout the Caribbean islands, where it’s best enjoyed on one of the wonderful white sand beaches, with a beautiful sunset as your backdrop.

As with any popular cocktail, there are plenty of different variations to choose from. So, the answer to the question of how to make strawberry daiquiris varies somewhat according to who you happen to ask, just as it does with the rum runner recipe. If it’s your first time learning how to make a strawberry daiquiri, we recommend you start with this simple cocktail recipe. It’ll soon become a classic in your house.
To make this recipe, you’ll need four strawberries (the fresher, the better), two tablespoons of white sugar, 35ml of white rum, one tablespoon of strawberry liqueur and a squeeze of lime juice.
Step 1: Add the four strawberries, white sugar, white rum, strawberry liqueur and a squeeze of lime to a cocktail shaker. Use a rolling pin to mash the ingredients together until well combined.
Step 2: Put the lid on your cocktail shaker and give it a good shake.
Step 3: Prepare a martini glass and strain your strawberry goodness straight into it.
Step 4: Serve immediately and enjoy!
If there’s one variation on the traditional strawberry daiquiri recipe that you absolutely must try, it’s this one. Frozen strawberry daiquiris are hugely popular across the Caribbean. They’re so refreshing, and perfect when enjoyed in the sunshine. The frozen variation on this epic Caribbean cocktail has the same kick as the original, courtesy of a healthy helping of another Caribbean favourite: white rum.
The ingredients of the classic frozen strawberry daiquiri recipe are the same as it’s ordinary counterpart, except of course ice is added. So, to try this one you’ll need light rum, fresh strawberries, the juice of one lime, frozen strawberries and sliced lime to serve.
Step 1: Grab your blender and throw in one part fresh strawberries, one part frozen strawberries and two parts rum.
Step 2: Blend until the mixture reaches a slushy consistency.
Step 3: Have a taste and add lime until your daiquiri has a sharp kick that cuts through the sweetness of your strawberries.
Step 4: Serve in chilled martini glasses
As we said, there isn’t just one way to make a strawberry daiquiri. If you’re a lover of triple sec, you must give this one a try. To make this variation on the classic frozen strawberry daiquiri recipe you’ll need ice cubes, light rum, triple sec, fresh strawberries, lime juice, sugar and a wedge of lime to serve.
Step 1: Add one part strawberries (make sure they’re really fresh), one part triple sec, two parts rum and ice to your blender.
Step 2: Blitz the mixture until it resembles a slushy cocktail.
Step 3: Try the strawberry daiquiri and add lime to taste.
Step 4: This is optional, but if you want to really impress your guests we recommend you roll the rim of your martini glasses in sugar, before straining in the mixture and serving.
Although you’ll be hard pressed to find a bar in the Caribbean islands that doesn’t serve up a delicious daiquiri recipe, the drink didn’t actually originate here. In fact, the strawberry daiquiri can trace its origins back to Cuba, and later New York, when it first appeared in clubs in 1902.
Legend has it that the daiquiri is named after a beach and iron mine, near the second largest city in Cuba: Santiago de Cuba. American mining engineer Jennings Cox is attributed with first creating the drink. He found himself in Cuba during the Spanish-American war, and started mixing local ingredients of sugar, fresh limes and plenty of ice.
Daiquiris didn’t find fame until much later, though. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1940s that the drink found its way on to many a cocktail menu across America and the world. This was largely as a result of the rationing, which made whiskey and vodka scarce.
Instead, people got their hands on rum far more easily in the U.S., thanks to Roosevelt’s ‘Good Neighbor Agreement’. And it wasn’t long before that rum started appearing in delicious daiquiris. The rest, as they say, is history.
Whether you opt for the classic daiquiri recipe that goes back over a hundred years, or you prefer the blended frozen variety that’s perfect for hot summer days, we know you’ll love this delicious cocktail.
You could even experiment by adding your own extras - the triple sec addition is a particular favorite for a lot of people. If strawberries aren’t your thing, why not have a go with another fruit?
