The phenomenal Grand Canyon Skywalk is more than 240 mi/386 km from the South Rim visitor center, almost as far away as the canyon is long. It is reached via the entrance at Grand Canyon West. It is actually closer to Las Vegas, Nevada, which is only 120 mi/193 km farther west.
The Skywalk is an amazing U-shaped, glass cantilever bridge extending 70 ft/21 m out from the edge of the cliff at Eagle Point. From the bridge, you can gaze straight down to where the Colorado River runs through the canyon floor 4,000 ft/1,219 m below. The Skywalk has solid sides to help overcome any feelings of vertigo, yet gives visitors a unique sense of being suspended in mid-air and an unparalleled birds-eye view over the canyon.

This western part of the canyon runs through land belonging to the Hualapai Nation. To visit Grand Canyon West you must purchase an entry package that includes a visitation permit and various tours and activities run by the Hualapai, such as a shuttle to the main viewpoints and visits to the Indian Village and Hualapai Ranch. The basic package, the Hualapai Legacy Tour, costs US$49.92. Add-ons such as Hummer off-road tours, horseback rides and helicopter-and-pontoon boat trips to the bottom of the canyon can also be purchased.
